Collision between two-car DMU, 51207 and 56364. and parcels train hauled by Class 37, 6726 attributed to the DMU not proceeding at sufficient caution and the signalman not giving adequate warning of signalling failures due to equipment theft.

Fatal collision of Peak Class 45 No. 125 on a Derby to Exeter freight with the rear of another freight hauled by Class 47 47441. Although extensively damaged the Peak was repaired and renumbered as 45071, the last locomotive to receive its TOPS number.

Collision of light locomotive 40111 with an Aberdeen to King's Cross passenger hauled by 47418. The Class 40 embedded itself underneath the body of the rear coach. Despite major damage and the start of Class 40 withdrawals, 40111 was repaired.
